Metals, energy pull Canadian stocks down

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Canadian stocks declined sharply Wednesday as mining, materials and energy stocks sold off on lower commodities prices. The S&P/TSX Composite Index [ca:isptx] fell 1.6%, with the S&P/TSX Capped Diversified Metals & Mining Index and S&P/TSX Capped Materials Index both down more than 3%. The S&P/TSX Capped Energy Index fell 2.5%. Shares of Suncor Energy Inc. , Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. , Goldcorp Inc. , Barrick Gold Corp. all declined more than 2% in recent activity. Crude oil prices fell 4% and gold prices dropped 4.4%.
