Hong Kong stocks fall in post-holiday trading
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Hong Kong’s markets returned from holiday to trade lower Wednesday, with resource and tech shares among the losers. The Hang Seng Index fell 0.4% to 18,546.51, with the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index down 1%, catching up with falls for mainland Chinese stocks on Tuesday. The Shanghai Composite extended its previous-session losses by 0.3%. Further losses in gold sent Zijin Mining Group Co. down 2.3%, while Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. dropped 2%, Jiangxi Copper Co. fell 2.3%, and Angang Steel Co. lost 2.2%. Tech shares also traded lower, with Foxconn International Holdings Ltd. down 1.2% and Lenovo Group Ltd. lower by 2%.
